What you’ll find below is a short list for littles around Charlotte this weekend, grouped by how big the ask is:

Monarch Celebration @ Reedy Creek

  • Area: Reedy Creek Nature Center — 2986 Rocky River Rd, East Charlotte
  • Cost: Free — advance registration required
  • Practical: Sat Sep 19, 10am–1pm. Crafts and pollinator activities. Register on ActiveNet (activity 178512) before you pack the car. Turn in at the park gate, 2900 Rocky River Rd, and follow the same driveway up.

Rural Hill Corn Maze (day maze)

Effort: MetroAges: 2–10 (toddlers: shorter loops, hayride, pumpkins — skip the night maze)
  • Area: 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville — Neck Road only, no public access from Jim Kidd
  • Cost: $18 adults · $15 ages 6–12 (Eventbrite; tickets aren’t date-specific)
  • Practical: Fri–Sun 10am–5pm, last entry 3:30. Closed-toe shoes help. Pairs well with Howdy Huntersville later the same day.

Patchwork Tales Storytelling Festival (25th)

  • Area: Historic White Home — 258 E White St, Rock Hill, SC
  • Cost: Free
  • Practical: Sat Sep 19 — crafts from ~10:30am, lawn performances ~11am–5:30pm. DJ Pre-K 11:00–11:45 is the littles kickoff. Face painting, crafts, Dynamo Dogs, national tellers, and food trucks. Bring chairs or blankets; leashed pets OK; no alcohol.

A Year with Frog and Toad (Children’s Theatre)

Effort: MetroAges: All ages / best preschool–early elementary
  • Area: McColl Family Theatre — 300 E 7th St (ImaginOn), Uptown
  • Cost: Sat from $25 · Sun from $28 (sections up to ~$39), plus $1/ticket facility fee, $5/order, and tax — official CTC seat map
  • Practical: Sat 11am & 3pm · Sun 11am & 2pm. A musical based on Arnold Lobel’s Frog and Toad books — a ~70 min one-act, so it suits the preschool–early elementary stretch. Every seat needs a ticket; there’s no age-tiered pricing.

Cabarrus County Fair & Rodeo (last two nights)

  • Area: Cabarrus Arena & Events Center — 4751 NC Hwy 49 N, Concord (GPS tip: use 4751 Old Airport Rd)
  • Cost: Gate: ages 5 & under free · 6–11 $6 · 12+ $8 · 55+ $6; military free with ID. Rides not included — day wristband ~$37 or Tap N Go credits inside. Rodeo $25, which includes fair entry (ages 2 & under free for the rodeo).
  • Practical: Fri 4pm–midnight · Sat 1pm–midnight. Rodeo at 6:30pm both nights — Fri is Neon/glow, Sat is Denim & Diamonds. The fair ends Saturday night: Sun Sep 20 is pickup only, not open. No re-entry, no outside food, parking free.

Festival of India (30th)

  • Area: Belk Theater & Tryon Street, Blumenthal Arts Center — Uptown
  • Cost: $5 covers both days, including the Charlotte Symphony fusion concert Sun 7pm
  • Practical: Sat–Sun Sep 19–20 from ~12pm. Food, crafts, exhibits, henna, and classical plus Bollywood stage shows, with a Sunday grand finale alongside the CSO. Littles may skim the longer stage sets.

Charlotte Sandlot Festival

  • Practical: Fri 1–6pm · Sat–Sun 10am–6pm. The Farm Fun Pass covers 40+ attractions — corn maze, wagon ride, playground, barnyard, and more. Arrive at least 2 hours before close. The market and ice cream shop stay open longer on weekdays.
